The Kodiak Economic Development Corporation began in January 2022, with the purpose of strengthening Kodiak’s economic present and future.
Kodiak Economic Development Corporation (KEDC) serves the Kodiak Island region as an IRS designated 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. KEDC’s mission is to promote Kodiak’s economic development and resiliency present and future, by advocating for a healthy business environment, connecting stakeholders to opportunities, innovating to strengthen Kodiak’s future and by driving support for existing businesses.
Located in the Gulf of Alaska, the Kodiak Island region includes sixteen major islands paralleling the Katmai Coast along the Alaska Peninsula for 177 miles. At 3,588 square miles, Kodiak Island is the second largest island in the United States, second only to the island of Hawaii. The city of Kodiak is 250 air miles southwest of Anchorage and is the seventh largest city in the state. Total island wide population including the six villages of Port Lions, Ouzinkie, Larsen Bay, Karluk, Old Harbor and Akhiok is approximately 13,000 with the majority of those residents living in and around the City of Kodiak and its road system.
