Paid student internships at KEDC :Step behind the “STAFF ONLY” door
Ever wondered what happens behind a “STAFF ONLY” door?
Curious about how to plan a community project that draws people together?
Kodiak Economic Development Corporation (KEDC) is preparing to welcome three paid student interns who want to find out. Any chance you’ll be one of them?
Your ideas (and mentoring).
Real projects (you help create).
On-the-job training (plus a paycheck!).
You might photograph an event, turn a story into a social media post, or survey students to learn would make a career activity worth attending.
You’ll also help with the details that keep projects moving, organize materials and projects, preparing meeting spaces and materials, and learn how to follow up and follow through.
Your responsibilities will reflect your interests and readiness, and also include opportunities that challenge you to try something new.
You won’t be expected to arrive knowing how to do everything. KEDC will provide examples, coaching and thoughtful feedback. Shared time with the other interns will give you space to ask questions, brainstorm, and work to solve problems together.
There are interesting extras, too! Plans include monthly career conversations with KEDC Board members and four half-day workplace visits from January through April. Ask people about their work, their path and what they’ve learned. Interns will also help shape some visits. And learning activities are part of your paid time.
The internship runs November 2026 through May 2027, beginning the week of November 2nd. Expect about five hours weekly through December and six starting in January, outside classes. The schedule follows the school calendar, with holidays, scheduled breaks and most school closures off.
Planned pay totals $2,800 per student, divided into seven equal monthly payments of $400 before payroll deductions. Some months will have fewer work hours because of school breaks.
College, high school, AKTEACH and other homeschool students are welcome.
You must be at least 16 by November 2, 2026.
Bring your interests, a willingness to learn, and see where it leads.
Explore the internship and apply by Friday, October 23, at 5:00 p.m. Alaska time.
