Storefront Improvement Program Grant Awardees Announced
Sunrise Studio owner, Manya Wandersee, is one of five Storefront Improvement Program awardees for the first cycle of matching funds grants. Wandersee plans to help patrons with access as well as beautify the studios entryway.
The Storefront Improvement Program application submission deadline has passed and KEDC is not currently accepting grant applications. Opportunities for 2024 will be announced soon.
Kodiak Economic Development Corporation is proud to partner with the Kodiak Area Native Corporation (KANA) and the City of Kodiak to develop the Storefront Improvement Program (SIP). The focus of the SIP is to continue to revitalize Kodiak’s Downtown by creating a matching grant program for Downtown businesses. The SIP is intended to assist businesses in our downtown core area with improving their storefront appearance by offering a matching grant up to $7,500.

Opportunity for
Revitalization
Enthusiasm for the Marketplace permeates throughout our town. Collaboratively, KEDC, KANA, and the City of Kodiak will help expand this major effort to revitalize our downtown. The SIP will offer matching grants to help businesses to upgrade their signage, replace windows, paint their entrances, and create more enticing, welcoming storefront appearances.
Promote revitalization in our Downtown Area to attract both visitors and residents
Encourage new development and increase foot traffic in our Downtown
Ensure a healthy economy by supporting diverse local businesses;
Improve storefront exteriors to create a more welcoming, customer-friendly appearance in the Downtown core area adjacent to St. Paul Harbor.

The SIP is a discretionary reimbursement grant, which can be used for exterior improvements to businesses in the Kodiak Downtown area, as explained in Area of Eligibility on page 8. The amount available to each business is $7500 in matching funds for eligible applicants. Grant funds will be paid upon completion of the pre-approved project. Grant funds will not be disbursed for any work completed before a Commitment Letter is provided and signed. Grant applications are reviewed once a year, and KEDC anticipates funding two to three projects per year. Applicants interested in participating in the program are encouraged to contact the SIP program administrator as soon as possible to begin the process, or to seek more information.

Businesses in the Downtown area located from 332 Shelikof Street to Marine Way – Kodiak Marine on Rezanof from Best Western to Big Rays, to include all of Marine Way to Hana House as well as all of business within the Center Street downtown area. Please refer to Area of Eligibility in the SIP packet.
