Kodiak Economic Development Corporation (KEDC) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2021 and now entering its fifth year of service to the Kodiak community. Led by a dedicated group of local leaders, KEDC was established to strengthen and diversify Kodiak’s economy through strategic partnerships, industry support, and workforce development.

Originally aligned with the island’s pandemic recovery efforts, KEDC has since expanded its focus, working collaboratively to build a resilient and sustainable economic future for Kodiak. Our mission is to improve the quality of life on the island by fostering economic opportunities, supporting businesses, and equipping our workforce with the skills needed to thrive in a global economy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

  • Board members provide strategic leadership, oversight, and support to advance KEDC’s mission. Responsibilities include participating in monthly board meetings, engaging in committee work, and contributing expertise to help shape Kodiak’s economic future

  • We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds in business, economic development, finance, policy, workforce development, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and other relevant fields. Community members who are committed to strengthening Kodiak’s economy are encouraged to apply.

  • Board members meet monthly and may also participate in committee work and community engagement efforts. The estimated time commitment varies but typically ranges from 2-4 hours per month.

  • You can submit your application through this link.

  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. As part of the application process, KEDC’s Executive Director will meet with you to share more information, answer questions, and discuss your interests and availability. The Executive Director shares applications with the Board for consideration, and the Board votes on appointments. Upcoming consideration is planned for October and November 2026.

  • KEDC welcomes community members who want to contribute their experience and ideas through our partnerships. We currently have two opportunities to participate beyond Board service.

    Kodiak Housing Action Partnership

    Formerly the Housing Steering Committee, this working and advisory group helps carry out Kodiak’s Housing Action Plan. Anyone may apply. We particularly welcome people in Kodiak’s workforce who do not currently own homes, including renters and those having difficulty finding suitable housing.

    You can participate as a core member, advisory member, or community partner, depending on your interests and availability. The application explains each option and its expectations.

    Career Connections Partnership

    Help develop career exploration and practical learning opportunities with local employers, educators, and community partners. Members can contribute to activities such as job shadows and hands-on experiences that introduce students and jobseekers to work happening in Kodiak.

    The Partnership will initially meet twice a month as members get to know one another and prepare for the work ahead. As projects develop, smaller groups will focus on specific activities and events, with members following through on agreed tasks between meetings.
