Help Guide KEDC’s Work in Kodiak
Kodiak Economic Development Corporation has opportunities for community members to directly engage in and support our work. If you have been following our projects and wondering how you could contribute, we invite you to consider Board service or participation in one of our partnerships.
KEDC Board of Directors
Two seats are currently open on KEDC’s Board of Directors. Board members help guide the organization’s priorities and oversee the resources that support its work. This includes considering how KEDC can advance housing and workforce initiatives while maintaining a strong, accountable organization.
Your experience in Kodiak, whether through employment, business ownership, volunteering, or community life, can contribute to those decisions. Members attend monthly meetings and are encouraged to contribute a total of two to four hours each month, including preparation and work between meetings.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with upcoming Board consideration planned for October and November 2026. The application shares more about the responsibilities and selection process.
Kodiak Housing Action Partnership
The Kodiak Housing Action Partnership, formerly the Housing Steering Committee, brings residents and community partners together to help carry out Kodiak’s Housing Action Plan. As a KEDC working and advisory group, it connects the plan’s recommendations with the local knowledge and participation needed to move them forward.
Anyone may apply. We particularly welcome people in Kodiak’s workforce who do not currently own homes, including renters and people who have been unable to find suitable housing to rent or buy. Your experience can help the group understand where barriers remain and what proposed solutions would mean in everyday life.
There are different ways to contribute as a core member, advisory member, or community partner. Monthly lunchtime meetings resume Thursday, October 15, at KEDC’s office, with lunch provided. The exact time will be confirmed, and the application explains the participation options.
Career Connections Partnership
KEDC is pleased to invite community members to join the Career Connections Partnership. Members will help develop opportunities for career exploration and practical learning with local employers, educators, and community partners. This could include arranging job shadows or helping create hands-on activities that introduce students and jobseekers to work happening here in Kodiak.
Initially, the Partnership will meet twice a month, giving members time to get to know one another and become familiar with KEDC’s workforce goals. Together, we will identify the first activities to pursue and discuss how members’ experience and interests can contribute. As the work develops, smaller groups will focus on specific projects, events, or learning opportunities, with members following through on agreed tasks between meetings.
Application Process
As part of the application process for each opportunity, and after your application has been received, KEDC’s Executive Director will meet with you to share more information, answer your questions, and discuss how participation could fit your interests and availability.
