On Thursday, August 14th, KEDC, together with the Center for Economic Development (CED), held the Kodiak Housing Action Plan Community Presentation.
KEDC is leading the development of a Housing Action Plan (HAP) to provide actionable recommendations and a clear roadmap for increasing the availability, affordability, and quality of housing across all Kodiak communities. The project timeline and goals were reviewed and further explained by Melissa Schoenwether, Executive Director of KEDC. Additionally, she shared what efforts have been made to include community feedback in the City of Kodiak, as well as in the Kodiak Villages. Continued work to ensure all Kodiak Villages is being undertaken. Schoenwether further shared about the Housing Action Plan Dashboard, which provided current data on a variety of markers for the health and overview of the housing situation in Kodiak and other areas of Alaska.
Jared Reynolds, Executive Director for the CED, presented specific data and applications for the information. He then shared nine themes that developed throughout the surveys, 1-on-1 interviews, and community engagement exercises. Margo Fliss, Associate Director of CED, invited participants at the presentation to respond to a survey taken in real time through an online app. This engaging activity provided immediate feedback to ideas and recommendations KEDC and CED have gathered up to this point.
All participants were invited to further connect with KEDC and CED to directly shape the HAP recommendations. Focus groups will be held Wednesday, August 20th, at Kodiak College, Benny Benson Room 135. This opportunity is also open to anyone in the community. Register here.
Below are both the Kodiak HAP Presentation, as well as the results of polling taken from those attending the event.
