KEDC Issues RFP for Kodiak Kelp Processing Facility
The Kodiak Economic Development Corporation (KEDC) is advancing its Mariculture Feasibility Study by issuing a Kodiak kelp processing facility RFP to support the development of a kelp processing facility in Kodiak. This project, part of efforts to strengthen Alaska’s mariculture industry in collaboration with the Alaska Mariculture Cluster, will enhance Kodiak’s economy through new infrastructure and job opportunities.
Planning for Kodiak’s Mariculture Growth
The Kodiak kelp processing facility RFP seeks qualified engineering firms to evaluate and design a facility that meets the needs of Alaska’s expanding kelp industry. The scope includes:
Site Evaluations: Assessing three potential locations in Kodiak for infrastructure, environmental factors, and development costs to select the most suitable site.
Preliminary Design: Developing conceptual and 35% design plans for the chosen site, covering processing, storage, and administrative functions.
This facility will provide critical support for local mariculture businesses, fostering economic growth and employment in Kodiak’s marine sector.
RFP Details and Timeline
The KEDC RFP 2025, issued on March 31, 2025, invites proposals from engineering firms by April 25, 2025. The selected firm will collaborate with KEDC to:
Complete Site Assessments: Deliver analysis and recommendations by late summer 2025.
Develop Preliminary Designs: Submit conceptual plans by fall 2025, preparing for future permitting and construction.
