KEDC is partnering with Rural Community Assistance Corporation, also known as RCAC, to bring individual well assessments to Kodiak on August 12 and 13, 2026. This service is available at no cost to participating community members, and space may be limited.

For households that rely on a private well, regular testing and maintenance are important. This opportunity is available to anyone in Kodiak who uses water from a private well, including renters, homeowners, property owners, and households who may not own the well themselves.

A well assessment can help residents better understand their water quality, learn more about the condition of the well, and receive practical recommendations if repairs, maintenance, or water treatment options may be needed. Renters are also welcome to request this service and may find the information helpful to share with a landlord or property manager.

Through this opportunity, participants will receive an individual well assessment, a completed report with recommendations, and water sample testing for several common indicators, including total alkalinity, calcium, total hardness, E. coli, iron, nitrate and nitrite, sulfate, and total coliform. They will also receive a well owner resource package and may have access to follow-up technical assistance as needed.

This is a meaningful service for our community. RCAC estimates the value of this visit at approximately $750 per participant, but through this program, Kodiak residents can request the service at no cost.

The assessments will be conducted by Pele Warnock, a Community Economic Development Consultant with RCAC. Pele provides technical assistance throughout RCAC’s western service area and has experience supporting rural and Indigenous communities with economic development capacity building, small business coaching, and water-related technical assistance. She will be visiting Kodiak for the first time in August 2026 to provide private well assessments and to collaborate with KEDC on workforce development training.

KEDC is grateful to RCAC for bringing this opportunity to Kodiak and helping local residents access information, testing, and practical guidance that can support household health, safety, and long-term well maintenance.
