KEDC MISSION STATEMENT
KEDC leads collaborative efforts to strengthen and diversify Kodiak’s economy through innovation, workforce development, and sustainable practices that honor our island’s culture, people, and natural resources.
KEDC VISION STATEMENT
A thriving, resilient Kodiak Archipelago where all local businesses and regional communities are connected to economic innovation and opportunity.
About Kodiak Economic Development Corporation (KEDC)
Kodiak Island is home to roughly 13,000 residents across the city and surrounding villages, connected by a culturally rich history and a deep sense of community. The island’s economy is anchored by commercial fishing, the U.S. Coast Guard, and a strong network of tribal and regional organizations. The City of Kodiak serves as the administrative hub and economic center of the island, while surrounding villages and communities contribute to a diverse regional identity.
Like many rural communities, Kodiak faces several foundational challenges: a limited housing supply, workforce retention gaps, and aging infrastructure that can constrain growth. Yet, these challenges have cultivated cross sector collaboration across public, private, and nonprofit partners to build a more resilient, diversified local economy.
KEDC’s Strategic Plan builds on this momentum, aligning housing, workforce, and business development efforts to strengthen the community’s long-term economic health and ensure that growth reflects Kodiak’s people, place, and values.
The Kodiak Economic Development Corporation (KEDC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening Kodiak’s economy through innovation, collaboration, and community-driven solutions.
Founded in 2021, we partner with the City of Kodiak, local businesses, and organizations to tackle the island’s toughest challenges: workforce development, housing, mariculture, and downtown revitalization. From connecting students to careers at the annual Career Expo to boosting downtown with SIP Grants, KEDC delivers results that matter. Our Housing Action Plan addresses Kodiak’s housing crisis, while Mariculture Growth paves the way for a sustainable blue economy. To date, we’ve leveraged over $86,000 in downtown upgrades alone.
