The U.S. Coast Guard has selected Kodiak as the homeport for the first two Arctic Security Cutters. Delivery of the first cutter is expected in 2028.
Separate construction awards will add 30 housing units and a child development center at Base Kodiak. The housing and childcare projects have a combined value of $143.4 million and are expected to be completed in 2028. The child development center is planned to serve more than 200 children.
A draft environmental assessment is also available for a proposed fuel pier and major-cutter berth at Base Kodiak. Public comments are due September 16, 2026.
KEDC is watching for procurement and subcontracting information relevant to Kodiak businesses. We are also following how this work may affect the local workforce and community infrastructure.

Coast Guard investment at Base Kodiak
Rocket Lab has received a $266 million U.S. Space Force contract covering 12 suborbital launches and six optional launches. The company says the launches will primarily take place from the Pacific Spaceport Complex-Alaska.
Rocket Lab announced plans for Launch Complex 4 at the Kodiak facility on August 10. The complex is expected to include two launch pads, with an Alaska operational debut planned for 2027.
The published contract establishes the national launch program. Kodiak-specific employment and spending figures remain to be confirmed.
KEDC is following the construction schedule and future procurement requirements. Local business participation, workforce preparation and demand for Kodiak services will become clearer as more information is released.

The Alaska APEX Accelerator provides government-contracting assistance to Alaska businesses. Its services include registration support, bid matching and help understanding subcontracting opportunities.
Government contracting assistance
Alaska’s Incumbent Worker Training Program can reimburse eligible employers for part of the cost of training existing workers. Employer contributions are required.
The Alaska Job Center’s On-the-Job Training program may provide partial wage reimbursement when an employer trains an eligible new employee.

The U.S. Economic Development Administration continues to accept applications through its Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance program. The program can support qualifying economic-development planning and public infrastructure projects.
